Defining a cult - The Cookie Cutter/Messiah Mold Philosophy:

There are common denominators that bind different cult groups together. It’s not so much the whether the belief system or doctrine is UFO based, as it is how that doctrine is administered. All cults, regardless of classification will incorporate the following within its structure to some degree.

1.      Divine instruction coming from a deity source, only given to that particular group usually through channeling or 'divine inspiration'.

2.      Exclusive membership and a 'you’ll miss out if you don’t get involved' mentality.

3.      Special privilege for the leader and members because of the “chosen” status.

4.      Channeled or divinely inspired messages to save / help mankind usually coming from leadership.

5.      Groups can change / stop future cataclysmic (i.e. floods, earthquakes, etc) events.

6.      Repetitious appeals /prayers/  incantations recited daily.

7.      Group is usually named such as (i.e. Heavens Gate, Branch Davidians, The Core Council) or leaders will change their names.

8.      Initiates will receive protection from deities / alien races if they maintain membership in the group and do as instructed by the leader

What cult leaders are looking for in a person:

People who are searching for answers to make sense out of a traumatic or anomalous event occurring in their lives. Divorce or separation from lover or spouse, the death of a loved one, family problems that leave a person in a vulnerable state of mind.

People whom are experiencing paranormal occurrences and looking for answers to why such events are happening.

People, who are living away from home for the first time, whom live alone. Often the elderly are targeted because they have little or no family contact.

People who are dedicated to going out of there way to help other people with either financial contribution or donation of time.

People who also have low self-esteem who have no self worth and are submissive to others’ suggestions.

People who are open minded who are inquisitive, creative, and artistic or are more open within their spiritual belief systems.

People who are emotional, softhearted, good-natured, who donate time energy and money to humanitarian projects.

People who have difficulty in saying no to anything.

People who cry easily at movies or who are very compassionate in their belief in God, Christ, a higher intelligence’s, alien life forms, etc.

Most cult leaders are out to look for anyone who fits the above criteria, regardless of gender race or social standing. At any time ANYONE may be placed into a situation of circumstance that would warrant being emotionally manipulated in this way. It happens to hundreds of thousands of people a year.

Other activity to look for in a group that denotes cultic behavior:

Avoid any group that is headed by a central authority figure that leads the group in a pyramidal type of structure.

Members often look to the leader for all teachings and answers to questions they have. This includes some Churches -

Remember that significant  mind control is used by many Evangelical types of Churches including those with both a mainstream

and nondenominational structure.

Many cults have an inner group, set aside from larger main group. Often two or more close confidants who act like sentinels will flank the cult leader. The leader has selected them to watch over other group members and to tell him/her what each member is doing.

People are often chosen from metaphysical classes taught at Universities, libraries or unorthodox churches, even abduction support groups and UFO meetings.

Statistics show cult leaders are usually men, but a growing number of women are now heading many of the groups. The leader will claims divine revelation, special privilege supposedly coming from God, Christ, Universal deities, alien entities, old gods, ancient time channelers, etc. leaders are (at least in the beginning) very charming, charismatic, extremely good at communication. Some may have backgrounds in sociology, psychology, parapsychology, ufology, acting/theatrical, or other performing arts and often hold teaching positions.

Most leaders will blend a bit of orthodox truism with their own self-revelations such as teachings from the Bible with their own added interpretation. Teachings from another obscure sources are common and added as well.

They are very skilled in communication and have a great deal of expertise in their own chosen field of study. They often suggest God will choose a person for a special mission or the person is an alien in human body, etc., then will explain natural psychological traits as supposedly proving their point. Many of the points are simple explanations and are common humanistic qualities

UFO cult leaders, contend they are privy to special information coming from universal entities by some form of

outside communication such as channeling or automatic writing. The leaders claim the channeled beings are angelic,

divine in nature or in some cases go as far to say the communicators are Christ, God, etc. In the case of a dangerous

UFO cult like Heavens Gate, the group is supposed to elevate to the next level of existence or to take another form

by leaving the body behind. In other cases, leaders claim that the chosen one will be coming to rescue the group

via Mothership, light vehicle.  Sometimes leaders claim to be sent directly from God themselves, or even as far as to

saying the are God themselves.

In cults that are very dangerous leaders will constantly make predictions of trouble and global collapse or other situation of doom getting ready to scour the planet.

To keep membership, the leader will use examples of how former members had tragedy befall them after leaving the groups protection saying the person fell from God or lost special protection. It is usually indirectly suggested the same fate will follow any member wishing to exit.

Leaders often become controlling, verbally and mentally abusive, once the targeted person becomes a member.
